Swansea Ramblers met near the Colliers Arms to explore the hidden woodland paths of Llansamlet.
A short distance away, an unmarked path took us into the woodland created to regenerate the polluted industrial land left after industry closed down in the valley.
The Lower Swansea Valley was the most polluted wateland in Europe with no trees growing here.
Now we have an extensive woodland that is attempting to re-green the area.
Our walk began on the west side of the Llansamlet bypass then continued via the underpass on the east side.
We followed an ancient path that does not appear on the maps but was recognised as such by the council who added a long footbridge when they built the bypass.
This footbridge took us again to the west side of the woodland where we joined the bed of an old railway track that led us to Pluck Lake.
Following yet more woodland paths, we began the journey north and emerged in the Enterprise Zone to make our way to the River Tawe.
After a lunch stop, we passed close to Fendrod Lake and followed paths between the industrial units that led us back to our start point.
We then enjoyed refreshments in the sunny Beer Garden of the Colliers Arms.
Yet another enjoyable day out with a friendly group of walkers.
Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.
