Swansea Ramblers

Garth Hill (Mountain)

A 5-mile walk up a hill and down a mountain

10th May 2025

Leader: Alison Broady

Swansea Ramblers travelled to Pentyrch, north of Cardiff to walk up a hill made famous by the story of an Englishman who walked up a hill and came down a mountain.

We didn't bump into Hugh Grant while on top of the mountain but we did pass the pub frequented by Gareth Bale of Welsh Football fame!

It was a lovely sunny day to make the ascent.    We started by passing through the Coed y Bedw Nature Reserve and Garth Woods before beginning the ascent which finally brought us to the top of the hill (mountain).

There was a 360 degree panorama over Cardiff and the surrounding area.

We enjoyed our picnic lunch on the top and stopped for a photograph at the Trig Point before making the descent back to Pentyrch.

We then enjoyed refreshments in the Kings Arms before making our way back to Swansea.

Another great day out walking with Swansea Ramblers.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?
