Swansea Ramblers

Clyne Country Park

A 4-mile Thursday walk

7th November 2024

Leader: Morag Eddyshaw

Swansea Ramblers had a midweek walk in the only Country Park in Swansea.

We met at Blackpill and walked into the country park along an old tram line.

Here, during the war, the Swansea Trams were stored at night to escape the Blitz.

This path, colourful in autumn, led us to the riverside path where we followed the Active Travel Path west towards Killay.

We passed Olchfa (Welsh for Washing place), where the Olchfa Stream tumbles down from the main road into the country park.

This Beech-lined lane was the old main road into Swansea where Cocklewomen washed before going to market.

Today the autumn Beech Leaves provided a wonderful vista of autumn colour as we made our way to Clyne Valley Cottages.

Stopping for a Tea-break on the bridge over the now disused railway, we descended and joined the line which now forms the spine Active Travel Path to Blackpill.

In Blackpill we finished our walk and some of us went for coffee in the nearby Woodman Inn.

Another lovely day out with Swansea Ramblers.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.
