Swansea Ramblers

Pontneddfechan

A 5-mile waterfall walk

31st August 2024

Leader: Clive Rees

Swansea Ramblers travelled to see the Waterfalls that straddle the Neath Port Talbot/Powys county boundary.

There were 29 of us out today and we made our way along the old tramway to the first waterfall, Sgwd Gwladys.

We then ascended out of Neath Port Talbot into Powys where the path on the map, (088/16/1) disappeared into woodland and we had to use our mapping app to cross through overgrown woodland onto path 088/19/1.

Continuing north along 088/19/1 which was also in need of clearance, we eventually emerged into the warm sunshine of a Hay Field where the hay had been cut and lay drying on the ground.

The field path led to a quiet single track road which we followed until we eventually descended to Pont Melin-fach.

Here we stopped for lunch before heading south along the riverside path 088/15/1 which followed the Nedd Fechan with its waterfalls and fast moving water before it returned us into Neath Port Talbot.

Returning to Pontneddfechan, we finished the walk outside The Angel Inn where we enjoyed refreshments and a social get-together.

Another enjoyable day out with Swansea Ramblers.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

The Right of Way has not been maintained by Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park

So we had to weave our way through the woodland
