Swansea Ramblers

Laugharne

A 6-mile walk in the sunshine

18th May 2024

Leader: Gary Williams

Swansea Ramblers headed west into Carmarthenshire and 28 of us met beneath the castle in Laugharne.

We followed Dylan Thomas' Birthday Walk on a hot, sultry day.   When we looked across Carmarthen Bay to Gower, we could see it was enveloped in rain clouds but in Laugharne, we had a sunny hot day.

The meadows were full of summer flowers as we headed east to return to Laugharne.   We stopped for lunch in a small park behind the main road through Laugharne then walked to St. Martin's Church to visit the grave of Dylan Thomas.

We then made our way onto the Wales Coast Path and returned to the centre of Laugharne, taking in the view of Dylan's Boathouse and writing shed.

We could hear thunder approaching but in Laugharne, it stayed dry and sunny as we sat outside The Fountain Inn, enjoying refreshments.

Another great day out with Swansea Ramblers.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.
