Swansea Ramblers Walk

Hendrefoilan

A 6-mile Saturday walk using new paths across the ridge

2nd March 2024

Leader: Peter Jones

Forty-one Swansea Ramblers set off from Dunvant and followed a path towards Waunarlwydd.   We ascended the ridge to have a panorama over the hills to the north.   From the top we could look along the Loughor Estuary, see Bynea and the hills above Pontarddulais.   We could see snow on the hills of Neath Port Talbot.

After a tea break, we continued to the Hendrefoilan ridge where we followed recently registered paths.

One of our Ramblers members was instrumental in the process to legally recognise these paths as Rights of Way which safeguarded their use by the public.   The council had taken action to remove the Barbed Wire obstructions which had appeared after the path had been legally recognised.

We enjoyed the view over Swansea Bay then had lunch in the field before descending through the estate to Clyne Country Park.   We had a stop at The Railway Inn then followed the Active Travel Path back to Dunvant.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?

There was a solar farm across the valley

You wouldn't think this was just above the urban areas of Killay and Hendrefoilan

And one of our Ramblers members worked for 20 years to secure this as a Right of Way
