Swansea Ramblers Walk

Nicholaston Church

A 5-mile walk to see the church

23rd September 2023

Leader: Peter Jones

Swansea Ramblers walked to Nicholaston Church which was open as part of the Open Doors annual event.   Forty-two of us started from Penmaen and ascended Cefn Bryn.   From His Majesty's Gower Way Stone, we had great views over Gower and down to the church.

We descended to the main road and carefully made our way the short distance along the road to the church.   We were welcomed into the church by the parishoners then after the visit, we ate our lunch in the graveyard.

Another very careful walk along the main road brought us to a nearby gate where we crossed the field.   This brought us to Nicholaston Woods which is part of Oxwich National Nature Reserve.

We headed east through woodland for some time until we reached Nicholaston Farm.   Here we continued east on the coast path to Penmaen Burrows.   Finally, we turned inland and back to Penmaen.

Afterwards, we went to The Gower Inn for refreshments.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?
