Swansea Ramblers Walk

Graig Fawr and Maggie's Twr

A 6-mile Saturday walk

19th August 2023

Leader: Gerti Axtmann

Swansea Ramblers walked over the hills above Pontarddulais for some stunning views all around.   To the south we could see the Loughor Estuary snaking its way to the sea and everywhere we had memorable views to remind us how good it is to go walking with a group that explore the different areas in which we live.

We weren't on a head-down route march, we were out on a Saturday to enjoy ourselves and meet up with friends who love walking in the countryside.   We ascended to Twr Maggie, a stone obelisk erected for the love of one man for his wife.

We followed the ridgeway to a viewpoint over Ammanford and Capel Hendre where we stopped to eat our packed lunches.   After lunch it was all downhill along the St Illtud's Walk long distance path that returned us to Pontarddulais.

Some of us then stopped off on the way back at The Buck Inn in Pontlliw for refreshments and a bit of a social in the Beer Garden before going home.   Another great day out with Swansea Ramblers.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?
