Swansea Ramblers Walk

Oxwich to Great Tor

A 6-mile Saturday walk

5th August 2023

Leader: Dave Stephens

Swansea Ramblers braved the forecast and the approaching Storm Antoni to have a great, sunny walk along the beach to Nicholaston Pill.   When we got there we had to divert inland as the bridge had been dismantled due to structural issues.   We had a refreshment stop on the beach at Great Tor, applying suncream in the hot sunshine.   When we got up to go, a short shower reminded us of the weather that was forecast.

We ascended to the cliff top, by which time the rain had stopped.   Following the coast path west, we were rewarded with coastal views and more sunshine.   We continued north through Nicholaston Woods where we had another refreshment stop while listening to the rain hitting the tree canopy above us.   When we emerged from the woods, the rain had stopped again.

Storm Antoni only really appeared for the last 10 minutes of the walk but because it was suddenly so windy, numerous tree branches began crashing to the ground in the car park.

We beat a hasty retreat to the safety of the Oxwich Bay Hotel for the usual post-walk social that are a feature of our walks.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.
