Swansea Ramblers Walk

Ferryside

A 9-mile Sunday walk

19th February 2023

Leader: Roger Brown

Swansea Ramblers had a dry, clear day to enjoy the views over coast and countryside.   From the hills, we had stunning views from Worms Head to Caldey Island.   Some of the paths have the best coastal views in Wales but are not on the Wales Coast Path!

There was, of course, some mud along the way but that's why we wear boots and everybody enjoyed the day.   We walked to Llangain where we had lunch then circled around to rejoin the coast path then return to Ferryside.   Afterwards, some of us went into the White Lion for refreshments.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?
- Come with Swansea Ramblers!

If you'd like to try a Swansea walk then do come along and find out what the great outdoors is all about.

It won't cost you anything to come along and see if walking is for you.
You'll be very welcome to join us for three free walks.

If you enjoy walking with us and want to come on even more of our walks, just become a member.

When you join us for a Swansea Walk, ask us about the other walks and social events we do.

Onto a path that should be the coast path - but isn't!

This path is right on the coast with stunning views - but isn't part of the coast path!

Caldey Island behind us.
All these views are not on the official coast path which goes along a sunken inland lane

Even when we turned inland, we still had views to Llansteffan Castle

Then a little further on, a familiar sight but from a different angle

Worms Head and Burry Holms at the end of Gower

Luckily this was mud, not slurry!

And the mud was only around the gate

Still have great views of Gower

The descent can only mean another ascent to follow!

But still we descend

Just a few Snowdrops here

Now for the ascent!

Up we climb!

And finding the pub closed, we had our lunch outside

Then we descend again to the same deep valley

And negotiate Carmarthenshire stiles

And Carmarthenshire Slurry

And more Carmarthenshire stiles!

Photograph of Walking Route - Image 36
They haven't yet seen that triple stile!

We got over them with difficulty

Then with the obstacle behind us, we continued downhill

Having climbed out of the valley, we made our way towards Broadlay

We then crossed the main road and walked below Iscoed Mansion

A ruined shell of a mansion, still worth about £500,000!
