Swansea Ramblers Walk

Pembrey Country Park and Cefn Sidan

An 11-mile walk to a shipwreck

29th January 2023

Leader: Paul Arnold

On the 29th January 2023, Nine Swansea Ramblers, a guest and a member from another group went on a 11-mile route along Cefn Sidan beach, Pembrey, to the wreck of the SV Paul.   Luckily the weather was dry, overcast with a little wind chill on the exposed beach.

The group left Pembrey Country Park via the woodlands to meet with the Wales Coastal Path and onto the beach where we stopped for a coffee break.    We then continued on the beach, west towards the Gwendraeth Estuary and the site of the SV Paul ship wreck, where we had lunch.

Along the route, the walk leader informed the group of some local factoids and the history behind the SV Paul wreck.    We re-traced our route back along the beach to the Country Park, stopping to view other ship wrecks now visible at low water.   Having all arrived back at our starting point, some of the group rounded off the day with refreshments at the Pembrey County Inn.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.
