Swansea Ramblers Walk

Bishopston Valley and Pwlldu

A 3.5-Mile Saturday walk

23rd July 2022

Leader: John France

John France led Swansea Ramblers on a walk from Pyle Corner.  We descended to the ruined Chapel where John told us there are no proper historicl records to confirm its use.  We descended to the valley floor and made our way to Pwlldu Beach.

After a lunch stop on the pebble beach, we followed the coast path east to Brandy Cove.  We had to be careful as sections of this path are on bare rock and can be tricky to cross.  At Brandy Cove, John told us about the Silver and Lead mining as well as the possibility of smuggling.  We then heard about the gruesome murder in 1919 of Maimie Stuart and how her bigamous husband got away with it!

After the walk, we went to The Beaufort Arms in Kittle for refreshments and a social get-together.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people?

Always a lovely view but it is really a post-industrial site!
