Swansea Ramblers Walk
Lure of the Lighthouse
22nd January 2011
Leader: Mike Lewis
Mike led us on one of his many interesting walks in Gower. We walked out to see Whiteford Lighthouse at low tide.
Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.
Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.

Setting off in sunshine but weather is cold
Beautiful winter's day to walk through the pine trees
Out onto the coast path
Lots of ice about
Sunshine streams through the trees and it's warming up
Terry enjoying a tea break
A sheltered tea stop before walking out to the lighthouse
Whiteford Lighthouse in the distance
Merfyn leads the way
A fair step to get out to the lighthouse
Everyone comes across the rock pools at their own pace
Sun starting to get hazy
But still a fine day to be out
A few rock pools to jump across
And we're there!
Lighthouse will soon rust away if nothing is done
Barnacles and mussels encrust the surface
Now I wonder where Mike wanted to have a group photo?
Hmmm! That looks familiar
Oh Yes! The lighthouse of course!
Best head inland before the tide turns!
Some came after reading about the walk in the local Evening Post
Mike and Cedric back on the beach.<
Lighthouse being left behind
Good views over to Broughton
Getting stretched out as we cross the long beach
Even ice on the tide line!
Cwm Ivy Tor marks the inland return
Taking the path through the dunes
Back to the nature reserve
Whiteford National Nature Reserve
Back to the Britannia Inn at Llanmadoc to warm up
