Swansea Ramblers Walk
Swansea Ramblers visit Austria
Day 5: Brent Alm - Tirolerhaus - Hochfeldermalm
9th July 2018
Leader: Guides arranged with holiday company
Day five in Austria. The weather again stayed dry and perfect for walking. We took the bus to Brent Alm and went up the mountain in a gondola to the Tirolerhaus from where we walked up to the Hochfeldermalm for refreshments and a chance to sit and take in the mountain views. We walked through a forest with large ant hills then stopped at a reservoir with clear green water and stunning views. At the top of the gondola ride is the Ehrwalder Alm restaurant with traditional Austrian cooking and the best Apfel-strudel so far. Some of us took the gondola down but a few of us followed the riverside path down into Ehrwald.
Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities from the long strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker to the short, easy lowland walks where maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people. If you'd like to try a walk then do come along and find out what all this Swansea Walking in the great outdoors is all about. It won't cost you anything to come along and see if walking is for you. If you get the bug and want to walk or stroll regularly then you can also become a member. Just ask us about the walks and social events we do when you join us for a Swansea Walk.
Sonnenspitze first thing in the morning
The church outside the hotel
but who is that on the balcony?
More morning views
Ah! It's Colin!
Even more morning views
Buying a gondola ticket at Brent Alm
And up we go!
With great views all day
A high waterfall
And Sonnensptize behind it
We'll be up there tomorrow
Views just get better and better!
Some mist still on the mountains above the Tirolerhaus
But we weren't going to the top of the mountains!
Nor was she
They prefer the 'lower' pasture
And what views
A hairpin bend brings us under the Hochfeldermalm
A great day for visibility of the surrounding mountains
At the Hochfeldermalm, Cameron describes the rest of the walk
Enjoying the views and the refreshments
Do we really want to leave these views?
Oh well! Off we go, passing another shrine
Descending to the forest
An ant hill in the forest
Ehrwald far below us
Emerging from the forest
About the same height as the top of the gondola ride now
The Alpenglühen Restaurant - No! we didn't go in!
An alpine spider enjoying the flowers
Stopped for a while at this beautiful reservoir
with clear green water
Then it was to the Ehrwalder Alm for refreshments
A lovely day to sit outside
In the evening there was a free concert
