Swansea Ramblers Walk

River Clydach & Mynydd Gelliwastad

20th April 2013

Leader: Lynne Esson

Lynne took us for yet another outstanding walk in glorious sunshine.  We had completed membership applications handed to us and more new faces came on the walk.  Starting at the RSPB reserve in Cwm Clydach, Craig Cefn Parc, twenty-three of us set off along the riverside path.

Ignoring the footbridge, Lynne instead turned back and uphill to cross the road and continue uphill to Cadwgan Road.  At the end of the road a pleasant green lane took us towards Llwyn-y-Domen Farm.  This track looked like it could be very muddy in the wet but today was no problem.  The path should have gone through the farmyard gate but a tractor was parked blocking access so we had to proceed through the garden to reach the road.

Down the road for almost half a mile, we turned right uphill on unregistered paths on access land that led us up onto Mynydd Gelliwastad.  Here we enjoyed fabulous sunny views south to the sea at Port Talbot and north up to the Brecon Beacons.  Here we enjoyed a lunch stop in the sunshine before descending left then right along a path above the fields.  Turning left downhill on a rocky lane, we turned left on the road and descended to Quarr Road.

Left on the main road brought us to the community centre and the footpath along the River Clydach.  We went past the waterfall and continued north until we reached the bend in the road and the car park.

Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities.

Try an easy walk of 2-3 hours or our longer strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker.
