Description:
A new walk using part of the recently completed Towy Active Travel Path.
We’ll walk the Towy Valley like never before and see from a different angle, Dinefwr Castle high on the hillside.
Our walk starts in the centre of Llandeilo from where we walk through the streets into the National Trust Dinefwr Estate.
Our journey through parkland will follow a Right of Way which takes us to the north of the estate. In the distance, we will see Dinefwr Castle and Paxton’s Tower.
Leaving the green countryside of the estate, we follow a quiet country road with grass growing down the centre.
Crossing a bridge over the ford at the hamlet of Cilsan, we make our way on a ‘B’ road to Cilsan Bridge.
We then join the new Active Travel Path at the University Farm. We continue in the bottom of the Towy Valley along the route of this old railway line. From here we again have views of Dinefwr Castle towering above us.
After about 2 miles, we leave the tarmacadam to cross a couple of fields leading to the historic Llandeilo Bridge, built in 1848 to replace an earlier seven arched bridge.
We then ascend the road until we arrive back at the car park.
Stiles: None. Toilets: In pub at end of walk. Terrain:
Social after walk: Afterwards, we will go for refreshments to The White Horse Inn. |
