Llanmadoc and Whiteford Point

Description:

 

From Cwm Ivy, we will follow the coast path round to Whiteford Point, passing through woodland and along the edge of the marsh (sometimes muddy!).

 

There should be good views across the estuary. We will then follow the path round and along the beach before returning to our starting point.

 

A nice flat walk, with just a little ascent to the car park at the end.

Terrain:

·       Sand, dunes, exposed tree roots, uneven surfaces, pebble surface on part of beach. 

·       Some sections may be wet and muddy after rain.

·       One ascent on way back just before the café.

Description:

 

Join Lucy on a lovely circular walk along the Neath Canal before climbing through woods to a viewpoint. 

 

We will then go around a small reservoir and pass through the beautiful Gnoll Park with its lakes and a ruined mansion.

 

We then return to the station via Victoria Gardens.

 

Stiles: None.

Toilets: At Victoria Gardens.

Terrain: There will be a few steep ascents, so this walk will be a bit harder in places than our usual Saturday walks.

A flat walk along two canals with a half-way stop at a recently opened café.

 

We will be walking along first the Tennant Canal to Neath then the Neath Canal to Aberdulais where there is that fabulous old aqueduct.

 

At Aberdulais, we will stop at ‘Booths by the Bridge’ Café and bar.

 

We then begin the return journey along the Tennant Canal to the start.

 

Please note: You must bring a torch with you as we will be passing under the flyovers where it is dark and the towpath very narrow.

 

Stiles: None.

Toilets: At Booths by the Bridge.

Terrain:

  • Flat, well-surfaced towpaths.
  • Torch MUST be carried for the dark sections.

·       At T-Junction, turn right.

A beautifully varied walk with incredible views which will include ‘Giants Grave’, Cathole Cave, The Great Cairn and Penmaen Castle.

 

Come along and enjoy a thoroughly enjoyable walk that can be enjoyed as a ramble with great company, giving you an opportunity to spend time savouring nature, birds and wildflowers.

 

Enjoy the fascinating history of the area and have time to let our local area inspire your creativity. Remember to bring a drink and some lunch.
