Llanmadoc and Whiteford Point

Description:

 

From Cwm Ivy, we will follow the coast path round to Whiteford Point, passing through woodland and along the edge of the marsh (sometimes muddy!).

 

There should be good views across the estuary. We will then follow the path round and along the beach before returning to our starting point.

 

A nice flat walk, with just a little ascent to the car park at the end.

Terrain:

·       Sand, dunes, exposed tree roots, uneven surfaces, pebble surface on part of beach. 

·       Some sections may be wet and muddy after rain.

·       One ascent on way back just before the café.

 

Social after walk

Afterwards, we should be able to go to the Cwm Ivy café (and enjoy their delicious cake!)

Directions:

·       Head west to Llanrhidian via the B4295 or B4271.

·       From Llanrhidian, continue west through Oldwalls towards Llangennith.

·       Pass through Burry Green.

·       Take next right at Kennexstone Farm camp site.

·       Follow Britannia Inn sign to continue north across common.

·       Steeply descend into Llanmadoc.

·       At junction turn left to continue west towards the church.

·       Turn right in front of the church and descend.

·       Turn first right into camera-controlled car park (Remember to pay by card).

Neath Canal and Gnoll Park

Description:

 

Join Lucy on a lovely circular walk along the Neath Canal before climbing through woods to a viewpoint. 

 

We will then go around a small reservoir and pass through the beautiful Gnoll Park with its lakes and a ruined mansion.

 

We then return to the station via Victoria Gardens.

 

Stiles: None.

Toilets: At Victoria Gardens.

Terrain: There will be a few steep ascents, so this walk will be a bit harder in places than our usual Saturday walks.

 

 

Social after walk:

Afterwards, we will go for refreshments to The Bryncoch Inn.

Park towards the middle of the car park away from the station entrance.

 

Directions:

·       From Swansea, join A465 for Neath.

·       Descend slip road for Neath, taking 3rd exit off roundabout.

·       On the flyover, take 1st exit left onto the slip road

·       Descend to Milland Road T-junction.

·       Turn right on Milland Road.

·       Turn left into car park.

Neath and Tennant Canals

Description:

 

A flat walk along two canals with a half-way stop at a recently opened café.

 

We will be walking along first the Tennant Canal to Neath then the Neath Canal to Aberdulais where there is that fabulous old aqueduct.

 

At Aberdulais, we will stop at ‘Booths by the Bridge’ Café and bar.

 

We then begin the return journey along the Tennant Canal to the start.

 

Please note: You must bring a torch with you as we will be passing under the flyovers where it is dark and the towpath very narrow.

 

Stiles: None.

Toilets: At Booths by the Bridge.

Terrain:

  • Flat, well-surfaced towpaths.
  • Torch MUST be carried for the dark sections.

 

Social after walk

Afterwards, we will go for refreshments to a local venue.

Directions: 

·       Head east on Fabian Way (A483)

·       Join M4 towards Carmarthen in the A465 (Neath) lane, to leave at the next junction.

·       At the M4 roundabout, take the 3rd exit to join the A465.

·       Exit left at sign for Neath Abbey Industrial Estate.

·       At T-Junction, turn right.

·       You can park at the end of this road OR

·       Turn right to park nearer the Abbey (if there is space).

Oystermouth Garlic and Bluebells

Description:

An evening walk around Oystermouth, taking in the countryside of the cemetery, Castle Green, Oystermouth Castle and Underhill.

 

Hopefully, we will see Bluebells, lots of Garlic, tree blossom and views across the bay to the lighthouse and beyond.

  • Possibility of slippery mud so walking poles recommended.
