We come back through Oxwich Green and fields to Horton.

Description: This section of the Pembrokeshire Coastal Path is divided into a long and short walk. Arriving at Castle Point, Fishguard @ 10:45 a.m., all disembark to enjoy superb views of Goodwick Ferry Port, Lower Town (Cwm) and Fishguard Harbour (where the 1956 film Moby Dick and the 1971 film Under Milk Wood were filmed).

 

The long walk: Will commence from Castle Point @11:00 a.m.

The short walk: The group that are walking the final 5 miles will take the short coach journey to Fishguard for approximately 2 hours of leisure time and site seeing, then the coach will leave Fishguard @1:00 p.m. to take the short walkers to Dinas Cross. The short walkers all disembark and walk downhill to meet the long walkers for lunch in Pwllgwaelod.

 

The combined group: All leave at 2:00 p.m. for the remainder of the walk, visiting Cwm Yr Eglwys (Saint Brynnach’s Church) the old port of Parrog and finally onto Newport for some refreshments. The coach leaves Newport for Swansea at 7:00 p.m.

Follow this minor road for a few miles to pass a lay-by on the left (with room for about eight or ten cars). Ignore this lay-by and carry on to the lay-by a little further on (which is larger).

We begin at the Joiners Pub then cross over the road to the footpath that runs down into Pen-y-Wern Woods.  We’ll walk alongside the golf course before turning left and up beside the river. We turn right onto Cefnstyle Road for a short distance before turning right to come back through fields to the golf course and the starting point. Directions: A4067 northwards up the Swansea Valley. About a mile above Dan-yr-Ogof Caves, take a left turn signed Trecastle. This road is scenic and narrow, ascending across moorland then descending through forest onto farmland. At a T-junction, turn left, signed Llanddeusant. After about 3 miles, pass through a wooded area. Just before a cattle grid, bridge and moorland, turn left into Pont-ar-Wysg Car Park.

Description: We’ll start at the 12 metre high, commemorative steel statue of a miner, called ‘Guardian’. There will be one steep ascent (which is the only part of the walk that borders on ‘strenuous’) but we’ll take our time climbing it until we reach the moorland ridge for extensive views. We’ll then descend via St Illtyd’s Church, (the historic and oldest church in the county).

On Sunday, 22nd September, Swansea Ramblers will have a choice of two walks for members to enjoy:

 

1. A 7.5 mile walk at Abertillery with a visit to the Guardian Miners’ Memorial to the Six Bells Colliery disaster then wonderful views on the access land high above the town.

 

2. An 11 mile superb coastal and inland walk in Gower, the 1st Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in Britain. Bob will lead us along the Gower Coast with its spectacular cliffs and show us an inland path cleared by our work party for the benefit of locals and tourists.

We’ll stay at BEST WESTERN Valley Hotel, a beautiful refurbished Georgian listed Building set in its own spacious grounds. Situated in the World Heritage Site of Ironbridge, in the stunning Severn Gorge. The Hotel Garden adjoins the European award winning parkland that sweeps down to the bank of the River Severn.
