Swansea Ramblers Walk
Swansea Ramblers visit Austria
Day 6: Seebensee - Coburger Hütte
10th July 2018
Leader: Guides arranged with holiday company
Day five in Austria. The weather was good at first but as the day went on, the cloud came down to hide the peak of the Sonnenspitze and we even had the odd raindrop. There were again two walks, one harder than the other but this time we all met at Seebensee with the option to climb further to the Coburger Hütte for views and refreshments. It was very cold at the Coburger Hütte but worth it for the views.
Swansea Ramblers offer a range of walks for most abilities from the long strenuous mountain walks for the experienced walker to the short, easy lowland walks where maybe you'd like to explore walking for the first time with a friendly group of people. If you'd like to try a walk then do come along and find out what all this Swansea Walking in the great outdoors is all about. It won't cost you anything to come along and see if walking is for you. If you get the bug and want to walk or stroll regularly then you can also become a member. Just ask us about the walks and social events we do when you join us for a Swansea Walk.
The group on their way to Seebensee
Passing our hotel on way to the bus
We used the gondola again to reach the Tirolerhaus
Went this way yesterday
But we take a right turn to see different views
Then stop at the viewpoint
And pose for a group photo
And what a lovely place for a photo
Then it's through the forest
Sharing the track with some Alpine cows
We're not going all the way up there though!
Up and up
Some just have to show off!
But it was because we'd reached the...
... Seeben tal-blick!
And what a blick
Then off a short distance for refreshments at the Seebenalm
Then refreshed, there was more ascent to reach the lake
Seebensee Lake - and what a setting!
Sonnenspitze is just out of the mist - but not for long!
A short stop and time to decide whether to ascend to the Coburger Hütte
The Hütte is to the left and towards the base of the Sonnenspitze.
Hmm! Think they've had too much mountain air!
Merfyn wonders what they are up to
The reflection below them is a clue
They are looking at the upside down reflection of the Sonnenspitze
The reflection was good but easier to see the right way up!
The hardier walkers set off for the Coburger Hütte
Leaving the Seebensee behind
Quite steep and took half an hour to get up the zig-zag path
Richard was one of the first up
Behind the Hütte is Drachensee Lake
Sat outside but it was very cold
The mist only just stayed high enough to give us views
More Ramblers arrive
And an Alpine Crow came squawking around
All too soon we were off again on the descent
Back to Seebensee
Regroup before continuing
Descending towards but not stopping at Seebenalm
Ice sheets still in the mountains above us
And one intrepid Octogenarian went to have a look

Into the forest, taking a different route to the ascent
People pile up the stones as they pass
A long walk through the forest brought us back to the Alpenglühen near the gondola
