Swansea Ramblers Walk
8th May 2010
Leader: Tim Gronow
If you'd like to try a walk then do come along and find out what all this Swansea Walking in the great outdoors is all about. It won't cost you anything to come along and see if walking is for you. If you get the bug and want to walk or stroll regularly then you can also become a member. Just ask us about the walks we do when you join us for a Swansea Walk.
Leader: Tim Gronow
Beginning the ascent from the car park
Smaller group than the Crinkle Crags walk
Fine walking area
Tall stile to negotiate
Approaching Dungeon Ghyll
Almost at the Ghyll
Time for a breather
(and forty winks for Helen)
Another stop to admire the view
Path about to level out before the next climb
Ascending gradually to the Pikes
Fine walking conditions
Steep ascent and passing the Crinkle crags group
Good views from here
Tea stop with Harrison Stickle behind us
Pike of Stickle ahead of us
Getting ready for next ascent
Almost on top of Pike of Stickle
Very good visibility
At top of Pike of Stickle
Martcrag ahead to climb and the valley along which we will return
Getting ready to climb Martcrag
Heading for the Cumbria Way
Joining the Cumbria Way
Heading for Angle Tarn
Not much wind at the moment!
We were so lucky with the weather
The peat under foot was very dry
Would have been very different in wet conditions!
The normal walking conditions underfoot should be wet!
Found some water!
Climbing the ridge and experiencing strong winds
Nearly on top of the ridge
Looking for the Crinkle Crags group
Reached Angle Tarn
Tim points out the other group
We begin descent to Mickleden
Path has been surfaced
Long way to go - into valley and follow it left
Tea stop half way down
Down at last
Hard surface to walk on
Sun not so strong now
Gravel path harder than walking the moor!
Test of endurance on the hard path with tired feet!
Breda still going strong
Not much further now!
Tim points to where the other group is likely to be by now
Final descent to the car park
